Reporting a problem with a recipe
Recipe bugs are the most useful reports. Please include:
- the recipe name as shown in your library;
- the section it happens in — details, utensils, setup, ingredients, steps or yield;
- what you expected the cooking view or the Recipe Maker to do;
- what it actually did, with a screenshot if you can;
- your browser and operating system.
Please don't send recipes with client data, confidential family notes or anything you
would not want stored on your device. A screenshot of the inputs and the result is usually
enough. If you need to share a full recipe, export it from the Recipe Maker as a
.json file (self-contained with media as data: URIs) and attach
that instead of a ZIP.
Problems with a .recipe file
If a .recipe file you were given fails to open, please attach the file (or the
exact error message shown) together with:
- where you got the file — exported from SousChef, downloaded from a URL, hand-authored, or something else;
- whether the file opened on another device;
- the file size, and the sizes of any large media inside it.
A .recipe is a ZIP archive containing recipe.json and a
media/ folder; you can inspect it with any standard ZIP tool. The
Recipe Maker page documents the format and shows examples.
Problems with the cooking view
Timers, auto-advance and progress resuming can all depend on the browser. If a timer does not fire, the chime is silent, or progress is lost, please tell us:
- which browser and version you were using;
- whether you had interacted with the page before the timer finished (browsers block audio until the first tap or click);
- whether you allowed notifications;
- whether you had cleared site data since the last session.
Progress is stored per-recipe in your browser's localStorage; clearing site
data or opening a private window starts the recipe from the beginning. The recipe itself
is unaffected.
Accessibility and privacy
Accessibility barriers and privacy questions go to the same address. For privacy, please mention which part of the site you are asking about — recipes and cooking progress live only in your own browser, and the privacy policy explains how to clear them. If you are reporting an accessibility problem, see the accessibility statement for the details that help most.
