1. Acceptance

By using SousChef you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. What SousChef is

SousChef is a free, browser-based recipe library, editor and cooking companion published by RohanTorul. It stores recipes as .recipe files on your own device, lets you edit them in the Recipe Maker, and guides you through them step by step in the cooking view. It is provided for home cooking, education and reference.

3. No professional advice

The recipes, timings, cooking temperatures, ingredient quantities and any allergen notes shown by SousChef are the content the recipe's author put into the file, or that you typed in yourself. They are not medical, nutritional, dietary or food-safety advice. Real cooking depends on factors SousChef does not know about: the exact size and starting temperature of your ingredients, your oven or hob, the altitude and humidity where you cook, and the freshness of what you are cooking. Always:

• cook meat, poultry, seafood, eggs and leftovers to safe internal temperatures;
• follow the storage, cooling and reheating guidance of a trusted food-safety authority (for example your local health agency or a national food-standards body);
• check allergens against the labels of the actual products you use, not only the recipe text — suppliers change ingredients and cross-contamination risks vary;
• consult a qualified professional for medical or dietary decisions.

Nothing on this site is engineering, medical, legal, safety or other professional advice, and nothing here should be the sole basis for a decision that affects someone's health.

4. No warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any recipe, timer or result is correct.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RohanTorul is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the site — including any harm, illness, property damage or spoiled food arising from preparing or consuming a recipe you found, edited or cooked with the help of the site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is zero.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

6. Your recipes and inputs

You are responsible for everything you upload, type or create in SousChef — every .recipe file you import, every image, GIF or video it contains, and every edit you make in the Recipe Maker. A .recipe file is an archive that can carry arbitrary media and text; it is your responsibility to check that a file you did not create yourself comes from a source you trust, that its media does not contain harmful content, and that its recipe is safe to cook.

Do not upload recipes you do not have the right to use, and do not rely on this site to keep confidential data: your recipes stay in your browser, but they also live on that device under that browser profile, and are visible to anyone who has access to that profile.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or its host; interfere with its availability (for example, automated scraping at a volume that degrades service); use it to break the law; upload recipes that infringe copyright or contain malicious media; or present its output as medically or nutritionally certified.

8. Intellectual property

The site's design, text and code are owned by RohanTorul or used with permission and are protected by copyright. You may use the site freely, including for your own recipe collection and commercial cooking, and you may quote short extracts with attribution. You may not republish the site, or a substantial part of it, as your own product.

Recipes you write or upload remain yours. Because they never reach us, we claim no rights over them and cannot use, inspect or share them. Recipes you receive from other people remain theirs; SousChef's file format does not change copyright or licensing of the recipe inside it.

9. Third-party links and services

The site links to external pages. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability or practices, and following such a link means the destination site's terms and privacy policy apply.

10. Privacy

How the site handles data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

11. Changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time, and may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. General

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the courts of Ontario, Canada have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
